“Boyz N the Hood” Director John Singleton in Coma After Suffering Major Stroke

John Singleton in coma after suffering major stroke

After news broke that Boyz N the Hood director John Singleton suffered a major stroke last week, word comes that the 51-year-old is in a coma.

According to TMZ and legal documents they obtained, “Singleton’s mother, Shelia Ward ,is asking a judge to appoint her temporary conservator because he is “unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.”   because he is “unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.”

His mom also added that at the time John suffered the stroke, he was involved in “several business projects and was prepared to sign a lucrative settlement agreement later this month.” She is asking to handle those affairs and execute the settlement agreement.

John’s family released a statement following the stroke.

“John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care,” the statement said. “We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.”

John is best known for directing the 1991 hit film, Boyz N the Hood, where received Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director at the age of 24. John is also known for the films were Poetic Justice (1993), Higher Learning (1995) and Rosewood (1997) among others. Since then the 51 year old has served as an executive producer of the crime drama series Rebelf or BET and co-created Snowfall for FX.
