It was a sad weekend for Disney Channel fans – actor Cameron Boyce, most known for his role as Luke on the sitcom Jessie has passed away at the age of 20. The star reportedly died in his sleep on Sunday from a seizure that was related to an ongoing medical condition.
Boyce’s family spoke to ABC (owned by the Walt Disney Company) about his sudden passing. “It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron. He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated.”
They continued, “The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”
Boyce has been acting since the age of 9, first starring in a Panic! at the Disco music video. He went on to guest star in many hit Disney Channel TV shows including Good Luck Charlie; Shake It Up; Austin and Ally and Liv and Maddie. But it was his role as Luke Ross in Jessie that made him a household name among the tween set. Boyce perfectly played the role of the impish, nanny loving character for four years from 2011-2015.
His role as Carlos, Cruella de Ville’s son in The Descendants further cemented his Disney star status. Descendants 3 is scheduled to premiere on the Disney Channel on Aug. 2.
The Disney Channel released a statement to USA Today on Boyce’s passing. “From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples’; lives through his humanitarian work.”
And he did just that. RIP Cameron.
