Athletic company Nike has long inspired people of every age and color with their brand of ‘Just Do It’ commercials. But recently, one of the commercials got a complete makeover courtesy of talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
“Have you seen Serena Williams new Nike commercial,” DeGeneres asked her audience during a recent episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “It’s a great commercial. It really empowers women. In fact, I loved it so much that I asked Serena to make one for me and she did.”

With a voiceover from the tennis great herself, the commercial looks back on past funny moments on the much-loved talk show. But after the line ‘it’s only crazy until you do it,’ the commercial takes an emotional turn, showing all that DeGeneres has accomplished in her long and storied comedic career.
And yes, we went from laughing to crying in 60 seconds flat.
Williams was also featured this week on a new six-episode digital series from The Ellen DeGeneres Show titled DiversiTea. The tennis great was interviewed by young activist Naomi Wadler about losing her sister back in 2003 in a shooting.
“I was affected personally by gun violence, my sister unfortunately passed from that,” Williams said. “People are talking about it now because it’s happening more widespread but it’s been affecting our community for years.”
