Late night talk shows are known for their wicked good skits, but we have never seen something like this. On Tuesday (Dec. 18,) Mary Poppins Returns stars Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda joined forces with talk show host James Corden to sing snippets from 22 musicals in 12 minutes.
“We’ll be doing a ‘roll call’ celebrating some of the greatest movie musicals of all time as fast as we can in one take,” explained Corden before tearing into the musical mash-up. There were songs from shows like Cabaret, Chicago and Mamma Mia! There was also a mid-mash-up shout out to the movie ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ and more during ‘The Late Late Show’ segment.
Throughout the performance, there were also a number of costume changes for the three stars, including red-sequined vests, top hats and wigs. In fact, Blunt herself seemed to transform between every song thanks to her incredible variety of hair pieces.
Even Kermit showed up to help sing “The Rainbow Connection from The Muppets Movie.
“James, that did not sound good,” Kermit joked. “It was really bad.”
Of course, the final song ended up being “Dancing Queen” from Mamma Mia! And the crowd went wild.
