Fans were understandably concerned when word spread Tuesday morning (July 10) that actor George Clooney had been hospitalized after a scooter accident in Italy. And while the actor only stayed at the hospital for a few hours after the incident, we now know why!
He was wearing a helmet!
In fact, PEOPLE Magazine is reporting that Clooney was protecting that precious head of his at the time of the accident, which occurred when a Mercedes hit the Yamaha TMAX that the actor was riding on. Indeed, the helmet undoubtedly helped to keep the injuries at a minimum, with Clooney only suffering slight trauma to the pelvis and bruises to one knee and arm.
“George was treated and released from an Olbia hospital,” one of Clooney’s reps told PEOPLE. “He is recovering at home and will be fine.”
What a relief!
It was also quite a relief to Clooney’s wife Amal, who rushed to the hospital to be by her husband’s side until he was discharged from the hospital. According to PEOPLE, Clooney will now be monitored for 20 days on purely an outpatient basis.
The father of two was in Italy to film the movie Catch 22, which he is both starring, directing and executive producing for Hulu.
