Howard Stern has always had a bit of a wild mouth. Heck, for years, it was a necessary part of a career that was based on crude comments and a salacious style of comedy.

But even he sounds like he now knows he took it too far after a video of Stern mocking actor Ted Danson, who once dressed up in blackface to perform at a Friars Club roast for his then girlfriend Whoopi Goldberg in the ’90s, resurfaced online.

“I’ll be the first to admit, I won’t go back and watch those old shows,” Stern said Monday (June 15) on his SiriusXM show in response to a retweet by Donald Trump Jr. that featured Stern’s 1993 New Year’s Eve special where he not only appeared in blackface, but also used the N-word multiple times. “It’s like, ‘Who is that guy?’ But that was my shtick, that’s what I did and I own it.”

Granted, Stern didn’t seem happy at all that Trump Jr. decided that this would be the ideal time to bring up something that happened so many years ago.

“Attacking me during the coronavirus and Black Lives Matter is absolutely f—— crazy, concentrating on me,” he said. “You want to concentrate on me and bully me and expose me, with all the TV shows I’ve done? They’re all out there. There’s nothing new here. We all know. I was the craziest motherf— on radio. There will never be another show crazier than mine.”

During the show, Stern refrained from apologizing directly for the incident. However, the shock jock seemed to ultimately recognize that he was wrong.

“If I had to do it all over again, would I lampoon Ted Danson, a white guy in blackface? —Yeah, I was lampooning him and saying, I’m going to shine a light on this. But would I go about it the same way now? Probably not. Not probably, I wouldn’t,” he said.
