Today with Hoda & Jenna co-host Jenna Bush Hager surprised the world on Monday when she announced that she was pregnant with her third child…and it’s a boy. But behind all of the smiles and laughs held a truth that Hager had not opened up about until now.
She once had an ectopic pregnancy.
“Before I had Mila [Jenna’s first daughter], I had a pregnancy in my fallopian tube,” she told fill-in co-host Meredith Viera on Tuesday (April 23). “I got to the doctor’s office and she said ‘Yeah you’re pregnant, we gave the blood test, but we can’t find the baby. I had no idea what an ectopic pregnancy was. They looked up and the baby was in my fallopian tube.”
“Oh that’s so dangerous!” replied Viera, who is filling in for Hoda Kotb as she spent time at home with her recently adopted second child.

Hager went on to say that she ended up having to go into emergency surgery to ultimately end the pregnancy.
“I had my fallopian tube removed,” she said. “It is very isolating. There is joy and there is pain.”
Viera also told her own story of infertility and multiple miscarriages, but hers was a bit more hilarious in nature, as she found out from her doctor that his prescribed suppositories were not to go in her butt, but in her vagina instead.
