If I had to pick two of my favorite female celebrities, both Dolly Parton and Jennifer Aniston would be up there on my list. Now, their two worlds have crossed over as Jennifer Aniston is starring in the new Netflix film, “Dumplin‘,” set to a soundtrack by Dolly Parton.
The film hits Netflix on Friday, December 7 and, ahead of the big release, Jennifer Aniston made a visit to Ellen DeGeneres to talk about the movie and what it was like to sing with the one and only Dolly Parton.
Jennifer Aniston plays the role of a small town, former pageant star turned pageant coach and judge with a plus-sized daughter, whom she calls Dumplin’. Dumplin’ decides to take on the pageant world for herself despite her unconventional size and look, which obviously causes all kinds of problems between her and her mother.
But ultimately, the message that comes out of the movie is one that Jennifer calls “beautiful.”
“It’s a beautiful, beautiful movie and a beautiful message,” Jennifer told Ellen of the film. “[It’s] something important, I think, for young girls to hear right now.”
Ellen went on to ask Jennifer about the soundtrack for the film— specifically, one of the songs Dolly had Jennifer sing.
“I don’t know how I got into it, but I got into it and I was there,” Jennifer said. “I was one day in a recording studio with Linda Perry and Dolly Parton.”
When Ellen asked her how much of the song Jennifer actually sings, Jennifer said, “I sing all of it. All through it. I kind of sing backup for Dolly.”
“Why aren’t we doing that today?” Ellen joked.
“Dumplin'” will be on Netflix and select movie theaters on Friday, December 7.
