Jennifer Lopez to Receive Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at 2018 MTV VMAs

-

Jennifer Lopez will be recognized at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 20 with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. The singer joins an impressive class of past recipients of the honor, which include Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Justin Timberlake, among others.

The singer joined MTV’s Sway Calloway for an interview following the announcement and was visibly emotional during the Facebook Live broadcast on Tuesday (July 31).

“It is amazing,” JLo tells Sway of the honor. “Growing up on MTV and watching all my idols get this award, to be the recipient this year, I can’t even believe it. I’m so excited.”

After saying hello to some fans in the Times Square studio audience, Jennifer got reflective when discussing her 20 years in music. “I get a little emotional ’cause I see the same fans in the front row and it makes me so happy,” she says, wiping away tears.

“I grew up in the MTV era,” she adds. “I was watching all the way back from Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna and Janet [Jackson] and Michael [Jackson], all of them. They were my inspirations to get into the music business, to do what I did. Their videos inspired me to do the videos I did. Now, to be 20 years in and here and winning this award, it’s just mind blowing.”

The 2018 MTV VMA’s will broadcast live from New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Aug. 20. JLo will be honored during the 35th annual awards show.
