Shortly after news broke that the 16 felony counts against Jussie Smollett have been dropped, the “Empire” actor spoke out regarding the turn of events.

In a press conference held in Los Angeles, Jussie, surrounded by his lawyers, made a statement to the press.

“I just made a couple notes,” he began. “First of all, I want to thank my family my friends the incredible people of Chicago and all over the country and the world who have prayed for me supported me and showed me so much love. No one will ever know how much that has meant to me and I will forever be grateful.”

He went on to say, “I want you to know that not for a moment was it in vain. I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one. I would not be my mother’s son if I was capable of one drop of what I’ve been accused of. This has been an incredibly difficult time, honestly one of the worst of my entire life. But I am a man of faith and I am a man that has knowledge of my history and I would not bring my family our lives or the movement through a fire like this.”

Jussie concluded by saying, “I want to thank my legal council from the bottom of my heart and I would also like to thank the state of Illinois for attempting to do what’s right. Now I’d like nothing more than to just get back to work and move on with my life. But make no mistakes I will always continue to fight for the justice, equality and betterment of marginalized people everywhere. So again, thank you for all the support, thank you for faith and thank you to God. Bless you all, thank you very much.”

With that, Jussie and his team headed right out the door. As they left, Jussie was in a crowd of people waiting for his car. He took selfies with fans and answered a question about what he had to say to the LGBTQ community.

“I am you and that I stand with you forever,” he said. “I love them, I am one of them, so I love them.”

As for his cast members Jussie said, “they are wonderful, they are my family.” Then Jussie jumped into his black SUV and he was gone.
