NASCAR’s Kasey Kahne headed to his Twitter account to open up about the recent struggles that he has been experiencing as of late, and make no mistake about it, he’s not ready to give up.

“People want to know why I just don’t retire and sit out the rest of the season,” Kahne writes on Wednesday (Sept. 12) after health issues has kept him out of the car. “The answer is simple. I love racing. I’ve been racing most of my life and I’m not ready to give it up.

Fans will recall that Kahne’s health troubles first came to light last week, when he wasn’t able to defend his title at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after doctors diagnosed him with dehydration, which in turn has caused an elevated heart rate. Kahne had already announced his plan to retire at the end of the 2018 season.

“I’m listening to the advice of my doctors and we are coming up with a plan on when it’s safe for me to return,” Kahne writes. “I want to continue racing in some capacity for many years to come in whatever division that may be. The current steps that I am taking care to find a way for my body to tolerate racing in any environment. To those who have supported me through this process, I appreciate each and every one of you.”
