Kelly Preston Dies From Breast Cancer at Age 57

Kelly Preston, actress and wife of John Travolta has passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57

John took to Instagram to share the sad news.

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” he wrote alongside a beautiful photo of his wife. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.  My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side.”

He continued, “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while.  But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT.”

Daughter Ella Bleu shared the same photo of her mother with a heartwarming message of her own.

I have never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful and loving as you,” she wrote. “Anyone who is lucky enough to have known you or to have ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow and a light that never ceases to shine and that makes anyone around you feel instantly happy. Thank you for being there for me no matter what. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your help and thank you for making this world a better place. You have made life so beautiful and I know you will continue to do so always. I love you so much mama.❤️”

Following the news of Kelly’s death, a family representative told People the actress chose to keep her battle private and the family asks for privacy as they grieve.

“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” the statement read. “She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”

Born Kelly Kamalelehua Smith in 1962 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kelly studied drama and theater at the University of Southern California. She began her career in commercials and small roles, changing her name to Preston, after her stepfather.

Kelly later gained fame with roles in major films such as SpaceCamp, Twins with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, Jerry Maguire with Tom Cruise,  For Love of the Game with Kevin Costner and Holy Man with Eddie Murphy and Jeff Goldblum.

The stunning actress was previously married to Kevin Gage from 1985-1987 and briefly engaged to Charlie Sheen in 1990. It was in 1987 that Kelly met her future husband, John Travolta, while filming the movie The Experts. The couple married in 1991 and share three children son Jett (1992 – 2009), daughter Ella Bleu (20), and son, Benjamin (9).

The family suffered a devastating loss when son Jett, who suffered from autism and had a history of seizures, died in 2009 during a family vacation in the Bahamas. The 17-year-old died after having a seizure and hitting his head on a bathtub.

John and Kelly recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary in September, and shared loving messages and a sweet photo on social media.

“Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife ♥️ @therealkellypreston,” John wrote in his post.

Kelly’s message read, “To my dearest Johnny, the most wonderful man I know. You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally… made me laugh harder than any other human being possible… shared the most beautiful highs and at times lows. You’re a dream Daddio and make life so much fun!! I trust my love with you implicitly… with you I know I will always be okay no matter what happens… I love you forever and completely. Happy 28th Anniversary @johntravolta,”

Kelly is survived by her husband John Travolta and their daughter Ella, 20, and son Benjamin, 9.

Our hearts are with the Travolta family as this difficult time.
