Kennedy Holmes showcased why she’s a good contender to be crowned the next winner of “The Voice” Monday night (Dec. 10) during her powerful performance of “This Is Me.” A poignant song featured in the film “The Greatest Showman,” 14-year-old Kennedy made coach Jennifer Hudson proud with a rousing rendition that had everyone on their feet.
One of two performances last night by Kennedy on “The Voice” Live Semi-Final, the teen is one of eight contestants left vying for a chance to be named the next big thing. Her powerful three-minute performance of “This Is Me” on Monday evening set her apart from the others.
Kennedy was first shown by herself on a darkened stage. Soon, a spotlight shined brightly on her as she kicked off the song with whispered vocals and delicate piano accompaniment. When the lights went up a choir was revealed behind her and helped transform the Los Angeles studio to that of a musical theater complete with choreographed dancing and stunning harmonies.
It was Kennedy who was the true star though. As the song built, so did her vocals. With a voice and presence well beyond her age, Kennedy effortlessly transitioned from a majestic belt to a silent whisper on the track’s more emotional moments. The performance just may have solidified Team Jennifer’s first win on “The Voice.” Watch Kennedy’s stirring rendition below.
