As America’s Got Talent kicked off their new season with new judges Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union, the show got an unexpected surprise with the emotional and inspirational performance of Kodi Lee.

Kodi Lee walked out to the stage with a cane and his mother, Tina Lee, on his arm. The reason? Kodi Lee is both blind and autisic. But the 22-year-old had the most positive attitude as he was welcomed to the show.

“Helloooo,” Kodi said as he met the judges.

“Kodi is blind and autistic,” his mom told the audience. “We found out that he loved music really early on. He listened and his eyes just went huge. He started singing and that’s when I was in tears because that’s when I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s an entertainer.’ Through music and performing he was able to withstand living in this world. Because when you’re autistic it’s really hard to do what everybody else does. It actually has saved his life, playing music.”

That’s when Kodi took his place at the piano and belted out the most beautiful sound. The singer received a standing ovation at the end of his performance and there was not a dry eye in the house. Julianne Hough could not control the tears and Simon Cowell praised the singer, but it was Gabrielle Union that was moved to make a big decision.

“I’m a new judge this season and I’m also a new mom this year,” Gabrielle said. “It’s the toughest job I’ve ever had and the most rewarding job I ever had. You just want to give your kids the moon, the stars and the rainbows. And tonight I’m going to give you something special.” That’s when Gabrielle hit the Golden Buzzer, advancing Kodi Lee straight to the live shows in Hollywood.
