In 2015, Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari’s family was struck with an enormous tragedy when her brother, Michael Cavallari, was found dead at the age of 30 days after his car was found abandoned in Utah.

Now, three years later, the pain hasn’t subsided. In fact, for Kristin, it’s become more real than ever. “Home from a busy morning and thinking of my brother,” she started in a post on her Instagram page. Alongside the caption was a black and white photo of her and Michael playfully enjoying some drinks together.

“Today is the 3 year anniversary of his passing and I think this year is one of the hardest- as it’s real now. He’s not coming back and the shock is finally gone. Today and every single day, Mikey, we miss you.”

It was November 27, 2015, when Michael Cavallari’s Honda Civic was found abandoned on I-70 in Utah and a search party for him began. His body was found on December 10, and it was later revealed that he died of hypothermia.

“My heart is in a million pieces,” his sister Kristen wrote at the time. “Mikey, I could always count on you to make me laugh. You had such a good heart and will be forever missed. I’m at a loss for words but I know u are in a better place and finally at peace. I love u so much RIP.”
