It’s just days before the Monday (Sept. 16) premiere of Dancing with the Stars, and Lauren Alaina is a tad nervous. Or at least, that’s what Bobby Bones tells us.
“Yeah, I have been getting a lot of ‘can you talk?’ texts from her,” Bones tells One Country in a recent interview. “She is struggling. She is very emotional. But she’s going to be great. She is just so lovable.”
Of course, Bones says that he hopes that him being in the live studio audience on Monday (Sept. 16) will help calm Alaina’s nerves just a little bit.
“She is a lot like me in the way that she is coming on the show with no dance background,” says Bones, who came home as the champion alongside DWTS dance partner Sharna Burgess last year. “I’ve never just watched the show as an audience member, so Monday should be really cool.”
Of course, returning to the DWTS set may end up being a tad bittersweet for Bones, whose former pro partner was not asked back to dance this season.
“I talked to her before the cast was announced and she was telling me that she wasn’t sure who her partner would be,” recalls Bones, who will also begin traveling the country in less than a month as the audition process of American Idol begins. “Then I talked to her when she got the news that she wasn’t coming back, and she was just so bummed. I mean, it was so close to the season starting when she got the news.”
And according to Bones, he’s still not sure why ABC decided not to invite the latest champion back to the show.
“They left her on an island a little bit,” says Bones. “We all have bills to pay, you know? She handled it way better than I probably would have had. It’s weird. Maybe it came down to budget or something. Artem (Chigvintstev) wasn’t asked back either. I just don’t know.”
