If you weren’t aware, Lionel Richie is one of the greatest performers, songwriters and singers in the history of American music. So, it makes a lot of sense that “American Idol” would want him as a judge and mentor.
One person, he won’t be mentoring to singing stardom anytime soon though is Ryan Seacrest. After Top 24 contestant Brandon Diaz sang Richie’s hit, “Hello,” Richie hit the stage himself to sing the tune and Seacrest joined in.
As Richie sang fellow judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan did a junior high slow dance and looked better than Seacrest sounded, but not that much better.
Richie originally released “Hello” in 1984 and it reached No. 1 on three different Billboard charts.
