Riverdale and Beverly Hills 90210 star Luke Perry has died, according to People magazine. Fans will recall that Perry was rushed to the hospital last Wednesday (Feb. 27) after suffering a massive stroke at his California home.

Perry was just 52 years old at the time of his death.

“Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke,” a statement from Luke’s rep said. “He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Countless fans will remember Perry from his unforgettable role as Dylan McKay on the hit television series Beverly Hills 90210, which aired from 1990-1995. The show then returned to the airwaves in 1998 and ran until 2000. In recent years, Perry also starred in the popular series Riverdale, playing the role of Fred Andrews.

The devastating news of Perry’s death comes at the same time as a reboot of Beverly Hills 90210 is planned for this summer. While Perry had not signed on to the project, his 90210 co-stars such as Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling had planned to appear in the series.

Perry also had acted in a number of other television shows throughout the years, including Will & Grace and Spin City. The James Dean lookalike also appeared in movies such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 8 Seconds and The Fifth Element.

Perry is survived by his son Jack and daughter Sophie.
