Just days after losing one of their most beloved characters, the show Riverdale have found the perfect way to pay tribute to Luke Perry.

On Wednesday’s (March 6) episode, a simple black screen flashed at the end of the show that read “In Memoriam Luke Perry 1966-2019.” The episode was the first one to air since Perry’s passing on Monday (March 4) following a massive stroke.

And while the tribute had to serve as a comfort to his loyal legion of fans, the entire episode had to be bittersweet, as Perry appeared throughout the previously taped episode. Fans will recall that Perry played the role of Archie’s dad Fred Andrews on Riverdale.

“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry,” a statement from Riverdale read shortly after Perry’s death. “A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness.”

The creator of Riverdale, Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, took to Twitter to share a cast photo in remembrance of Luke and announced that all episodes for the rest of their run will be dedicated to Luke.

“Going through pictures on my way to set,” Roberto wrote. “From the early days. With Luke in the middle. Our heart, always. Tonight’s episode of  finds Fred doing what he does best–helping Archie. It is dedicated to Luke, as all episodes will be for the rest of our run.”

Currently, further filming of the show has been halted as the cast and crew mourn the lost of their cast mate and friend. But rest assured that Riverdale will soon find a way to say their onscreen goodbyes to a character that they certainly weren’t ready to say goodbye to just yet.
