Shortly after announcing her fourteenth studio album, Madame X—her first since 2015’s Rebel Heart— Madonna is releasing the first single, “Medellin,” featuring Colombian singer and songwriter Maluma.
In posts on Instagram, Madonna has been hinting at who Madame X is. In a series of posts, she reveals that “Madame ❌ is a secret agent traveling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom, bringing light to dark places. She is a cha cha instructor, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a teacher, a nun, a cabaret singer, a saint, a prostitute. “
Leave it to Madonna.
The new single has the 60-year-old feeling a little nostalgic and taking a trip down memory lane.
“I took a pill and had a dream (Yo también) / I went back to my 17 year / Allowed myself to be naive (Dime) / To be someone I’ve never been (Me encanta) / I took a sip and had a dream / And I woke up in Medellín (¿Te gusta?) / The sun was caressing my skin (Dime) / Another me could now begin (Woo), she sings in the first verse.
“Medellin” is the first taste of new music from Madonna which is described in a press release as “Influenced creatively by [Madonna] living in Lisbon, Portugal over the past several years” and “a collection of 15 new songs that celebrate Madonna’s career-long affair with Latin music and culture as well as other global influences.”
Madame X is set to be release on Jun 14. The video for “Medellin” is due out April 24 on MTV.
