After 27 years of marriage, retired Team USA gymnast and current “Dancing With The Stars” competitor Mary Lou Retton is getting divorced from her husband, Shannon Kelley.
Retton shared the news with her pro dancer partner Sasha Farber, saying, “I went through a divorce. People don’t know that. It’s the first time I’ve actually said it publicly.”
Retton shared that the divorce was a long time coming. “It’s something that had really needed to happen for a long time,” she said. “We still love one another, but we weren’t great together anymore.”
Retton viewed her “Dancing With The Stars” debut as a time to change. “When I walked in here, I knew I was starting over, and I was scared. But now, I know I’m starting over, but I’m excited. There’s that mental switch,” she said.
Retton and Kelley share four daughters together: Shayla, McKenna, Skyla and Emma. “Thank God for my four girls. They loved me unconditionally,” she said.
Retton went on to dance the tango to “Shame” by Elle King, earning a 24/30 from the judges.
