Meghan McCain is continuing to grieve the loss of her father, Senator John McCain— and she’s letting the world in on her mourning.
John McCain passed away in August at the age of 81 after battling glioblastoma. At the time, his daughter, Meghan McCain, decided to take a break from her hosting spot on The View to spend time with her family, making an emotional return to the show on October 8.
Since his passing, Meghan hasn’t shied away from being vulnerable and open about the loss of her father. At his funeral, she gave an emotional eulogy, speaking to all of the characteristics she believed defined him.
“The best of John McCain, the greatest of his titles and the most important of his roles was as a father,” she said. “I know who he was. I know what defined him. I got to see it every single day of my blessed life. John McCain was not defined by prison, by the Navy, by the Senate, by the Republican party or by any single one of deeds of his absolutely extraordinary life. John McCain was defined by love.”
On Sunday, October 14, she took to Instagram to yet again let the world in on her heartbreak, sharing a photo of her father’s gravesite. “I miss you the most on Sunday,” she captioned the photo.
During her return to “The View,” Meghan shared a bit about her experience during her father’s funeral.
“From the second that my father passed … I had to get in a car and a motorcade … from the moment I left, there were people of all races, all ages, all creeds, people saluting, praying … he would’ve loved it,” she said. “I cried the entire time. There was a lot of talk about what died with him … his ideals … but they didn’t.”
Our thoughts remain with the entire McCain family.
