As the world continues to evolve around us, so do the Christmas classics that we have all been singing for years. Or at least they will if Miley Cyrus has anything to say about it.
Cyrus appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to sing her new version of the song “Santa Baby” alongside the talk show host and fellow music star Mark Ronson. Donning a red turtleneck sweater and green mini-skirt, Cyrus confidently sang a new version of the song after consulting with Fallon before the performance.
“Am I saying I’m gonna hook up with Santa if he buys me all this stuff?” Cyrus asks Fallon. “I’m asking for a car and a yacht and checks and literally the deed to a platinum mine. What?”
In true Cyrus fashion, she then tore into her new version of the 1953 classic, making some direct connections to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.
“A girl’s best friend is equal pay,” Cyrus sings. “Santa Baby, I’d love to know my ass won’t get grabbed at work by some ignorant jerk.”
Of course, “Santa Baby” isn’t the only Christmas carol that has been under some scrutiny as of late. The lyrics of the classic “Baby It’s Cold Outside” have also found themselves under a microscope as of late.
