Caroline Bittencourt’s family is denying that model died after trying to rescue her dogs after they fell off the boat.
“It was nothing more than an accident caused by the storm itself, which hit the coast of São Paolo on Sunday,” her father, Orley Bittencourt, told TV Band News on Monday, as reported by The Sun. “The claims are untrue and inaccurate, and I would ask people to listen to the facts.”
He continued, “[Her husband] Jorge [Sestini] told me a wave hit the sides of the boat and the strength of that and strong winds unbalanced Carol and she fell into the water,” he told the outlet. “Jorge jumped in to help her. He wasn’t able to throw a float or anything towards her because the distance between them was great because the currents took her quickly.”
“He could see Carol and she tried to swim to the boat,” said Orley. “He begged her to remain calm because he was coming to get her. But he could see her disappearing under the water and he couldn’t reach her as the storm separated them. He searched for my daughter for more than three hours and lost sight of the boat.”
Authorities added, “We have no information that she jumped in to rescue her dogs.”
Brazilian model Caroline Bittencourt had beauty, a beautiful life and a husband and family that adored her. Yet, none of these things could save her from a weekend accident that would ultimately take her life.
According to various reports, Bittencourt was out sailing with her husband Jorge Sestini when they hit rough waters, resulting in their dogs falling out of the boat. Bittencourt immediately jumped into the water to save the dogs and Sestini jumped in the water to save his wife. A few hours later, Sestini was found alive, but his wife was gone.
She was just 37 at the time of her tragic death.
Bittencourt’s body was found near Cigarras Beach in São Paulo on Monday (April 29). Throughout the years, Bittencourt had worked with high-fashion designers such as Valentino Garavani and Roberto Cavalli.
Her teenage daughter Isabelle headed to her Instagram page on Tuesday (April 30) to thank everyone for their prayers following her mother’s death.
“We are grateful for the support and affectionate messages we have received from Carol’s friends and fans,” she wrote. “This energy drive fills our hearts with so much love.”
Our hearts go out to Bittencourt’s family, friends and fans she left behind.
