There is a very good chance that Bode Miller’s wife Morgan Miller and country star Granger Smith never knew each other last week. Maybe they knew each other’s names or each other’s works, but they certainly weren’t emotionally tied to one another, until now.

On Thursday (June 6,) People magazine revealed that Smith’s youngest child River Kelly had died as a result of a drowning accident. Coincidentally, Miller’s daughter Emeline Grier also died as a result of a drowning last year.

Soon after the news broke, People reported that Miller shared a pic of Granger and his son on her Instagram Stories, saying, “My heart breaks. Another baby gone too soon.” She also shared various Stories and videos touching on the importance of water safety.

“Add layers of protection,” she wrote, also adding a video of her 8-month-old son Easton in the pool being taught how to turn over on his own to float on his back while in the water. “It can truly happen to anyone. I urge you to make your babies safer! Sign them up for swim lessons.”

Granger Smith announced the news of his son’s passing on his Instagram page, saying:

“I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.”

The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.
