From the moment the last episode of Downton Abbey aired on television all the way back in 2015, fans of the series have been craving more of the story. And they will get it in September of 2019 when the British TV drama is turned into a movie. On Wednesday (Nov. 21,) NBC’s Today show shared an exclusive, behind the scenes look at the new production.
Just a few months back, actor Allen Leech, who plays ex-chauffer Tom Branson in the much-anticipated movie, opened about what fans can expect.
“It’s a big, epic story that’s definitely going to fill the big screen,” Leech said at the premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody, a movie in which he plays Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury’s manager and lover. “That was our worry about taking the show from the small screen to the big screen.”
The movie is set to include a number of original cast members from the television show, including Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Joanne Froggatt, Elizabeth McGovern, and Laura Carmichael.
So, will Leech’s character finally find love this time around?
“Look, that was one of my hopes that I had at the end of the series in Season 6, and it didn’t happen!” Leech says. “So one would hope that it would happen in the movie.”
