When we heard they were making a sequel to the iconic 1964 film, “Mary Poppins,” we had our doubts. Who could stand up to the classic role defined by the great Julie Andrews?
Enter Emily Blunt, who takes on the iconic role as Mary Poppins in “Mary Poppins Returns.” The Golden Globe awards winner returns as the beloved nanny to the Banks family after many years. Jane and Michael Banks are all grown up. Emily does not disappoint in the role, shining as the one and only Mary Poppins.
Disney released the trailer today and we couldn’t be more excited. Dick Van Dyke returns as the son of Mr. Dawes, a character he played in the original and is joined by co-stars Colin Firth, Lin Manuel Miranda, Angela Lansbury and Emily Mortimer.
In a summary, Disney describes the movie’s plot. “In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.”
We can’t wait!
“Mary Poppins Returns” will hit theaters on Dec. 19.
