If you were blessed enough to grow up in the ’90s, you were likely a huge fan of “Space Jam”— and if you’re anything like me, your mom played the soundtrack on loudspeakers while you did chores around the house to get you amped. No? Just me?
In what might be the greatest news of a movie sequel ever, “Space Jam 2” is officially in the works, and the details have me feeling all sorts of nostalgic. According to SpringHill Entertainment, the film will feature LeBron James as small forward, with none other than Bugs Bunny as point guard.
LeBron spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the news, saying, “The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie. It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams.”
The film will reportedly be directed by Terence Nance and produced by “Black Panther’s” Ryan Coogler.
According to E!, production is set to start in 2019 during the NBA’s off-season and will likely premiere in 2021. Until then, I’ll be listening to the theme song on repeat.
