Broadway star Nick Cordero is not officially out of the woods when it comes to his ongoing battle with COVID-19. But according to his loving wife Amanda Kloots, he is starting to show signs of improvement.

“He is very, very, very weak still so it is very slow progress when they ask him to do things, but that you can see he is trying, which is awesome,” Kloots said on her Instagram stories Monday (May 11). “So it’s obviously like registering and he is trying to do the things they ask him to do.”

It’s a step in the right direction for all those who love Cordero, who began his battle with the cruel coronavirus disease in March. His battle has already done great damage to his lungs, and also led to getting his leg amputated.

He still has a lot of infection in his lungs that they are clearing out every single day,” Kloots told fans of her husband, who has starred in Broadway shows such as Rock of Ages and Waitress. “It is a lot that is still in his lungs and due to the damage of his lungs from COVID. They are just getting in there every day and sweeping these lungs, cleaning the infection out so that he stays clear, which is great.”

And yes, for now, Kloots is determined to stay focused on the positive. In a new interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America Wednesday morning, Kloots shared some more good news.

“I can’t express how happy I am today,” Kloots said. “The news is that he is officially awake! There’s just been this heaviness that’s kind of held over us for this time and to get the news today that the doctor said,  ‘I think we can officially say he is awake.’ I mean that was just the best news you could hear. We still have a very long way ahead of us, a long road ahead of us but we are on our way!”

“I’m not going to let him leave my side,” Kloots added when asked what she’ll do when he gets home.  “I can’t wait to be reunited with him, I miss him like crazy. Elvis misses him like crazy and we can’t wait to have him home.”
