You have to give credit to anyone who can poke a little fun at themselves. And New Kids on the Block are doing just that in their new music video for their song “Boys in the Band (Boy Band Anthem.)”
Released on Friday (March 1), NKOTB members Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Joey McIntyre and brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight are seen playing old guys returning to a high school classroom during a lecture on boy bands. The group then morphs into themselves through the years, from when they first began to now.
And yes, they still are as hot as ever.
“I take pride in celebrating our journey and the journey of other boy bands,” Walhberg says in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight. “The best part of the song for me is not only to acknowledge boy bands that followed us, but to acknowledge the boy band which had the biggest influence on us, which was New Edition.”
During the video, boy band Bell Biv DeVoe make an appearance along with a sexy Debbie Gibson, who plays a teacher who can’t help but strut down the hall to check out what’s going on. And yes, the lyrics to the song truly tell the history of boy bands, giving shout outs to everyone from ‘NSync to the Backstreet Boys.
The addictive new song is set to appear on the upcoming 30thanniversary reissue of NKOTB’s 1988 album Hangin’ Tough, set for release on March 8.
