Prince Harry’s Biggest Fan Daphne Dunne Dies At Age 99

Months after meeting Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, Daphne Dunne’s family has announced that the 99-year-old, who struck up an beautiful friendship with the Prince, has passed away.

Daphne is a longtime fan of the Prince, whom she met on several occasions, met the Prince in 2015, where she kissed his cheek. The two have met several times after where the Prince always stopped for a chat. Their last meeting was in October, where Prince Harry introduced his friend to his wife in a loving exchange.  The Prince and Meghan even sent Daphne a birthday card for her 99th birthday, wishing her well.

In a post on Daphne’s Instagram account, her family shared the news with with world.

“It is with the saddest of hearts that I would like to share the news that our most beloved mum and nanna, Daphne Dunne, passed away peacefully yesterday morning,” the post read. “She was a truly special lady who will be greatly missed by so many. The simple act of stoping Daphne in the street and holding her hand meant more to Daphne than anyone could ever imagine. We, her family, would like to thank everyone for the love and support they showed Daphne. She spent a large part of her life representing the women of the Australian Army and her two husbands Lt. Albert Crowne VC MM and John Patrick Dunne, ensuring that their service to Australia was never forgotten. It is fitting that Daphne passed away on the first of April as it is a month of renewal, remembrance and reunification with her loved ones that passed before her. We love you mum/nanna/Daphne, always and forever.”

Daphne’s Instagram account began in October 2018 and fittingly, it was started with a photo of her with Prince Harry, touching his face. “We have a very special friendship 💕👑,” she captioned the photo.

Her last post was four days prior to her death where the 99-year-old celebrated her birthday and received a special note from the Prince and his wife. “Today I celebrated my 99th birthday. I received a lovely message from Prince Harry and Meghan which really made my day. I wanted to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday, it means a lot and has touched my heart. ❤️,” she wrote.
