The Kennedy family has long been rocked by tragedy throughout the years. Yet, they continue to persevere, and that perseverance can be seen of late as they deal with the untimely death of Saoirse Kennedy Hill.

“If anybody ever wondered whether God loves the Kennedys the proof is that he gave us Saoirse, this brilliant beam of light and laughter,” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in a eulogy for his dear niece that he not only gave at her recent funeral, but later published in Medium. “Now, it’s time for us to cease being sad at her passing and to practice being grateful that we had her for 22 amazing years.”

Saorise passed away August 1 from a suspected drug overdose. While the official cause of death has yet to be determined, Kennedy’s eulogy stated that the night before her death was spent enjoying quiet time with her grandmother Ethel Kennedy and watching the sunrise the morning of her death.

“She put out a bright light,” Kennedy said of the 22-year-old who ‘enjoyed skiing, dancing and music. “Everybody loved her. She made people feel good. She felt loved by everyone in this church. It was all authentic. She was very, very, very easy to love.”

In addition, Robert shared his feelings in a social media post about Saoirse.

“We’ve lost our daughter and our children, their sister. Saoirse was fierce, both in her love for her family and yearning for justice. A fearless adventurer, she inspired curiosity and daring in her friends,” he wrote.  “But her greatest gift was to find humor in everything and to give us all the gift of her laughter – and our own. The gaping hole that she leaves in our family is a wound too large to ever heal.”

Our thoughts are with the Kennedy family at this time.
