If you’re interested in checking out what comes of the Roseanne Barr racist Tweet debacle, you’ll have to wait until October to find out. ABC has announced that the spinoff of the “Roseanne” show, titled “The Conners,” has an official air date.
“The Conners” will hit your small screen on October 16. The spinoff will include John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky) and Michael Fishman (D.J.), as they return to Lanford without their matriarch, Roseanne Barr.
After Roseanne received backlash for a racist tweet about Valerie Jarett, former aide to President Obama, ABC decided to cancel the mega-popular reboot of “Roseanne” stating,“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
Sara Gilbert, one of the shows stars (Darlene) and Executive Producers, stood behind the network’s decision to cancel but said that she and the rest of the cast were heartbroken. Now with the spinoff set for October, the cast has their jobs back.
Only time will tell if Roseanne was the key to that show or if ABC and the cast can make it work with out it’s leader and show’s original creator. “The Conners” will be the lead-in show on ABC for Tuesday nights, followed by “The Kids Are Alright,” “Black-ish,” “Splitting Up Together,” and “The Rookie.”
