Sad news coming from the Minnesota Twins organization. Ryan Costello, a third baseman in the Twins organization was found dead in his hotel room in Auckland, New Zealand, according to ESPN.
Ryan, who hails from Wethersfield, Connecticut, was set to play for the Auckland Tuatara of the Australian Baseball League, the website reports.
“It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Auckland Tuatara third baseman Ryan Costello overnight in Auckland,” the Auckland Tuatara team said in a statement. The statement also reveals that “preliminary indications suggest” Ryan died of natural causes.
“The Tuatara would like to express their deepest condolences to Ryan’s family back home in the United States and to the whole Minnesota Twins organization. Support is being offered to the Tuatara players, who are naturally devastated at the moment.”
The Minnesota Twins also posted Ryan’s photo on their Instagram account saying, “We are saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Ryan Costello. The entire Twins organization sends our most sincere condolences to Ryan’s family, friends, coaches, and teammates.”
In 2017, Ryan was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 31st round. He was later traded to the Minnesota Twins in 2018. In 2019 the third baseman spent the 2019 season playing in Florida in the minor leagues.
