U.S. Olympic Swimmer Ryan Lochte Suspended From Competing for 14 Months Over Controversial Photo

Wherever there is trouble, there is usually Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte. And this time, the trouble he’s in is going to keep him from doing the thing he loves the most – competitive swimming.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency announced on Monday (July 23) that Lochte has been suspended from all competitive swimming due to a photo he posted on social media of him getting an IV transfusion. The suspension will last 14 months from the time the photo was posted back in May.

Of course, it wasn’t long after the announcement that Lochte tackled the suspension firsthand. “I have never taken a prohibitive substance,” he said in a press conference on Monday (July 23,) about the pic, that also shown him getting the IV alongside his wife Kayla Rae Reid. “I have never attempted to gain any advantage by putting anything illegal in my body. I would never do that; this is very serious to me. “Unfortunately, while the rule is a newer rule and is not widely known as others, I should know better.”

The suspension occurs just over a year since Lochte became a father and two years after another suspension following his accusation that he was robbed at gunpoint during the 2016 Olympics.
