In 2017, over 10,000 people lost their lives as a result of drunk driving, according to Responsibility.org. Now, “Modern Family’s” Sarah Hyland is grieving the loss of her 14-year-old cousin after he was killed by a drunk driver over the weekend.
Hyland took to her Instagram to share the news of her cousin’s death. “This is my 14-year-old cousin, Trevor. Yesterday, he was killed by a drunk driver. My uncle is still in the hospital and is in need of more surgeries,” she said, including a link to donate to the family’s Go Fund Me.
Hyland stated that the man who allegedly hit her uncle and cousin hit their car so fast that her cousin “was ejected from the car” despite wearing a seatbelt. She stated that the man has two prior DUIs and attempted to flee the scene.
Her “Modern Family” co-stars and TV siblings Nolan Gould and Ariel Winter shared the Go Fund Me page to their own social media followers, saying that any donation would help.
According to the Go Fund Me page, Trevor and his dad were on their way to a show choir event when the accident occurred. “Trevor was a funny, smart, innovative, athletic, goofy kid and he was so loved,” the page reads. “His memory will live on in many ways.”
