The final countdown to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has begun via the release of the final trailer for the much-anticipated movie.
Set for a theatrical release on Dec. 20, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker continues to look like it will be packed with emotion for fans of the legendary film series. The final trailer, which aired during Monday Night Football on Monday (Oct. 21), touched on a number of plot points already highlighted in previous trailers, but also gave a somber look at Carrie Fisher’s last appearance as the iconic character Lela.
Fisher passed away shortly before filming began on the movie. She was just 60 years old at the time of her death.
“This is about bringing this thing to a close in a way that is emotional and meaningful and also satisfying in terms of actually answering [as many] questions as possible,” Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker co-writer and director JJ Abrams tells Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview about the film. “So if years from now, someone’s watching these movies, all nine of them, they’re watching a story that is as cohesive as possible.”
The upcoming movie will also bring new characters into the already intriguing storyline, including Keri Russell playing the role of Zorro Bliss and Naomi Ackie playing the mysterious character Jannah.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters Dec. 20.
