Tragedy has struck close to home for actress Tamera Mowry-Housley. She and husband, Adam Housley, have confirmed that their niece, Alaina Housley, was killed in the shooting at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, Calif., Wednesday evening (Nov. 7). The couple issued a statement to US Weekly after being vocal about searching for the 18-year-old on social media all morning.

“Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks,” the couple said in a statement to Us Weekly. “Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.”

Alaina’s suite-mate, Ashley, posted on social media shortly following the shooting, asking if anyone had details about her missing friend.

Adam, a former Fox News Correspondent, asked for prayers on Twitter before learning the heartbreaking news of his niece’s death.

Alaina is one of 11 others killed and at least a dozen more injured after a lone gunman entered the country music bar during “college night.” She was 18. A police officer who rushed to the scene, Sergeant Ron Helus, died trying to stop the rampage, CNN reports. The suspected gunman, Marine Corps veteran Ian David Long, was also found dead at the scene.
