Whatever you choose to remember about Tonya Harding‘s fall from grace in the mid-’90s, you have to find a way to remember that yes, she was one of the greatest female figure skaters in the world.
In the last year, Tonya has returned to the spotlight thanks to Margot Robbie’s “I, Tonya” and now, as a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars.”
During her interview prior to taking the stage with partner Sasha Farber, Tonya shared, ” I was the best figure skater in the world, and then I had it taken away from me,” which is true and not true for many reasons.
However, none of it mattered as she was an absolute star on the dance floor. Tonya and Sasha danced to Whitney Houston’s “When You Believe,” adding a little bit of emotional drama to the whole thing, but it worked.
Afterward, Len Goodman told her, “you shouldn’t be weeping, you should be happy because that was a lovely performance.”
Tonya and Sasha earned 23/30 points from the judges.
And yes, Oscar-winner Allison Janney and now, Tonya’s biggest supporter, was in the audience.
