According to various reports, Noelia, who shares three children with Marte (sons Starling, Jr. and Smerling and daughter Tiana), suffered the heart attack while she was actually in the hospital awaiting surgery for a broken ankle. No other information regarding this sequence of events is available at this time.

Before coronavirus postponed the regular MLB season, Marte was prepping to play his first year with the Arizona Diamondbacks after eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Noelia Marte,” a statement from the Arizona Diamondbacks read on Twitter. “Starling and his family are part of the D-backs’ family and we will do all we can to support him and his children during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Pirates also shared a statement.

“The entire Pirates family extend our deepest condolences to Starling Marte and family during this terrible time. Our hearts are truly saddened by this news.”

Marte concluded by writing, “Tú que eras tan buena! Me dejaste solo mi amor. ay que dolor que voy hacer,” which translates to “You were so good! You left me alone my love. oh what pain I’m going to do,” along with several broken heart emojis.

Our thoughts are with Marte and his family at this difficult time.
