Bobby Bones has long spoken his truth about his troubled past through his radio show and his best-selling books. Yet, perhaps his backstory was told most beautifully on Monday (Oct. 8) during a performance on Season 27 of Dancing With The Stars.
Alongside his DWTS partner Sharna Burgess, Bones turned out a beautiful contemporary performance to the song “A Million Dreams” from the movie The Greatest Showman. The performance was a part of the show’s always popular “Most Memorable Year” week.
“I hope that people are touched by [my story]. I think that’s why I tell my story so that people don’t feel so alone,” Bones shared during an interview with Entertainment Tonight shortly after his performance. “I think I felt very alone for a lot of my life but once I was able to share my story more and more and people wouldn’t say, ‘Hey I felt sorry for you,’ but, ‘I get it and I understand you,’ it kind of encouraged me to tell it more. I just don’t want people to feel alone.”
Before his performance, Bones joined viewers in watching a previously recorded video package in which Bones told the emotional story about his youth.
“I didn’t think it was going to affect me like it did,” he admitted. “I mean, it’s a story that I’ve written in a book and I talk about on the radio but to watch it back and then do something uncomfortable like dance which I don’t know how to do yet, [was tough].”
