Caleb Lee Hutchinson Added Some Southern Twang to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” on “American Idol” and Dedicated It To His Dog

-

We’re officially down to the top 7 on “American Idol” and things are heating up! Well, as much as they can when you’re singing Disney tunes, that is.

For episode 15, the top 10 contestants each had to perform a classic Disney hit of their choice in front of a live audience (and in front of Katy Perry dressed as Snow White, of course). Aspiring country artist Caleb Lee Hutchinson took on “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story, giving it his sweet, signature southern twang– and while I’ll always have a soft spot for Randy Newman’s O.G. version of the song, Caleb Lee Hutchinson’s version might be my new favorite take yet.

Maybe it’s because he channeled some real-life Woody vibes with his cowboy demeanor and longhorn bolo tie, or maybe it’s because he dedicated the performance to his BFF– his dog, Hershey, who was watching him from home.

Regardless, the performance earned him a spot in the top 7, and we can’t wait to see what he performs next!
