According to People magazine, the domestic battery incident involved Gray and his wife, who was said to have “numerous visible injuries on her body and also stated that she was strangled at one point by Gray and temporarily lost consciousness.” The magazine went on to report that his wife had been treated and released at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Gray is facing charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

At the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic even had taken hold of the world, Gray was also reported to have gotten into a run-in with a convenience store clerk after she accused him of spitting on the floor. According to TMZ at the time, no charges were filed in this particular incident.

On the television show Empire, Gray plays the role of Hakeen Lyon, who is the brother of Jussie Smollett’s character, Jamal Lyon. And in a very real swipe with real life, Smollett too has had his share of brush-in’s with the law.

Back in January of 2019, Smollett claimed that two masked men approached him as he walked down a Chicago street and made racist and homophobic insults before beating him and tying a noose around his neck. However, weeks later, it was alleged that Smollett actually had hired the two men to assault him. Smollett was indicted in February and will soon stand trial.

It was announced in May 2019, that the FOX series Empire would be ending following it’s  sixth season.
