Mandy Moore and Husband Taylor Goldsmith Record “Invisible Ink” for This Is Us [LISTEN]

If you’ve been keeping up with “This Is Us,” you likely heard Mandy Moore’s character, Rebecca, sing a song called “Invisible Ink” to Milo Ventimiglia’s character, Jack.

As it turns out, the song came to fruition after “This Is Us” composer Siddhartha Khosla (Sid) approached Mandy Moore’s musician husband, Taylor Goldsmith, about collaborating on a song for the show.

“I was thrilled to get that call,” Taylor Goldsmith says in a video released by NBC. “Sid had a whole plan of attack, how to emotionally kind of guide us with what’s going with Rebecca, and he gave me all the tools to help contribute what I could.”

Of course, this made the song that much more special for Mandy Moore to sing as it involved her soon-to-be husband.

“Sid approached Taylor outside of me — they did it on their own. It was such a surprise— that my own soon-to-be-husband got to write from my character’s perspective was pretty meta and weird, but it was so cool. The song is really beautiful,” she said.

The song was used in the episode “Sometimes,” where Jack and Rebecca travel to Los Angeles to meet with record producers. Jack asks Rebecca to sing him her audition song (“Invisible Ink”) after having an emotion-packed meeting with the parents of one of his fellow soldiers who’d died in Vietnam.
