Continuing the tradition of trying not to ruin a famous production by producing it on live TV, NBC brought “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert” to the masses with John Legend leading the way as Jesus.

Written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber as a concept rock opera album, before debuting on Broadway in 1971. Joining John Legend were Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene, Alice Cooper as King Herod, Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas, Jason Tam as Peter and Norm Lewis as Caiaphas. If you aren’t familiar with the production, the story follows the last week of Jesus’ life according to the Gospels.

Unlike a few other shaky live performances before it, “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert” seemed to be a bit better and not nearly as clumsy (sorry Carrie Underwood). But, of course, the best part of the evening was Twitter and all those funny tweets rolling in.
