Days after announcing her divorce to husband Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson was on her talk show talking about mental health…and her and Demi Lovato’s shared battles with depression.

“I love how open you are about mental health because I have similar issues, and I suffer from depression,” the American Idol alum revealed during the Wednesday (June 24) telecast of The Kelly Clarkson Show. “I think a lot of people, especially in the creative world or just from childhood even, [are] kind of trained to just keep going and ‘you can handle it,’ especially as a woman it’s like, ‘Don’t let them see you sweat.'”

After Lovato took the time to praise Clarkson for always speaking her truth throughout her career, Clarkson reiterated that her mental health journey continues to be a work in progress.

“Like, even when you overcome something, they’re like, ‘OK, she’s already overcome it.’ I’m like, ‘No, no that’s a daily effort in, like, trying to be positive….That’s not, like, a given,” the “Because of You” hitmaker said. “Like, you’re just over it, and you went to some magical therapy session, and it’s over,'” she continued. “I think that’s a daily thing that you work at and a daily thing that I work at.”

Fans will recall that Lovato has also been on a mental health journey of her own, having battled in the past with everything from anorexia to bipolar disorder.
