Just weeks after the death of her father John McCain, McCain returned to her position at the table on The View on Monday (Oct. 8,) eager to give thanks to everyone who showed so much love to her family.

“From the second that my father passed, I had to get in a car and a motorcade, from the moment I left, there were people of all races, all ages, all creeds, people saluting, praying,” she said of the hours following her father’s death on Aug.25 from glioblastoma. “He would’ve loved it.”

McCain also took the time to thank her “View” fellow hosts, including Abby Huntsman, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Yvette Nicole Brown. Brown was serving as a guest host for Joy Behar, who was on vacation.

“On a personal note, the women at this table — I just want to start with you, Whoopi,” she said. “My father loved you, he really loved you … You are my family.”

And while McCain remained emotional about her loss, she did show clear indications that her internal fire that she seemingly inherited from her father is still very much alive.

“My father always said, ‘We are Americans, and we can never surrender,’” she said. “I understand how scared and divided people are. You have to join me in never surrendering.”
