“Modern Family” Creator Says a Significant Character Will Be Killed Off During Season 10

Fans of ABC series Modern Family are buzzing over the news that a ‘significant character on the series’ will be killed off during the first half of the tenth season of the show.

“We’re handling some bigger life events in this season,” Modern Family co-creator Christopher Lloyd says in a recent interview. “We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.”

Lloyd went on to say that the death “will be a moving event and an event that has repercussions across several episodes.”

The news comes in the midst of talk about the show, whose stars such as Ed O’Neill and Sofia Vergara are entering into the last season of their contract.

“There is a significant change in the dynamics of the family that people maybe thought was going to happen at some point down the line that is happening sooner than expected,” Lloyd says.

So fans, time to set your DVR. Modern Family kicks off season 10 on Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
