For years, the trials and tribulations between Tamra Judge and Simon Barney played out every week on Real Housewives of Orange County. And while the two went their separate ways after their 2011 divorce, the two are still close.

Especially now that Barney is fighting Stage 3 throat cancer.

“I’m a private person, despite what my time on reality television might say,” Barney told People magazine exclusively about his current health battle. “But I wanted to speak before someone else does and uses their words, not mine. And to speak out about it so others can see how I’ve taken this fight on with optimism, and the good this has ultimately brought my life.”

Barney first experienced symptoms back in May, and now the cancer is not only in his throat, but on his tonsils and lymph nodes.

“He told me the news and we both literally started crying. I just couldn’t believe it,” Judge tells People. “My first thought was, ‘I don’t want to take my kids to their dad’s funeral,’ and immediately, any ill feelings between the two of us just vanished. At the end of the day, none of that matters. All we have to do is rally together to make it through this.”

In fact, Barney’s diagnosis eventually led Judge to make the decision not to return to RHOC for another season.

“It’s just very hard for me to want to go on a show where people are screaming and yelling and arguing about things that don’t even matter,” Judge says. “They’ve taught me that life is precious, and you don’t get that time back.”

Tamra also shared a message on Instagram saying, “Please keep @sbarney855 and our family in your prayers. It’s been a very emotional 4 months and we are rallying together as a family to get through this.”

Wishing the family well.
