After months of speculation about the “Roseanne” spinoff, “The Conners,” ABC has shared the first promo ahead of it’s premiere on Oct. 16 and there’s no mention of matriarch Roseanne.
The promo teases the fact that “there’s one thing on everyone’s mind,” leading us to believe that they would address the absence of Rosanne Barr’s character. But not this time. The family seems to pick up where they left off, carrying on with life in Lanford.
However, ABC’s description of the new series reveals that in the premiere episode, “Keep on Truckin’,” a sudden turn of events forces the Conners to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.
We’re assuming that’s the loss of the main character, Roseanne Barr.
Roseanne’s reboot of the popular show “Roseanne” was cancelled due to a controversial tweet sent out by the show’s star and Roseanne was fired from her show. Shortly after, studio execs decided to go forward with the rest of the cast in a spinoff called “The Conners.”
Roseanne herself had been speaking out about the events, even revealing the fate of her character.
“Oh they killed her,” she said. “They had her die of an opioid overdose. It wasn’t enough to just do what they did to me, they had to so cruelly insult the people who loved that family and that show,” she said. “That’s what they chose to do. There’s nothing I can do about it. It’s done.”
You can see how it all unfolds when “The Conners” premieres on Tuesday, October 16 on ABC.
